Press Release
The Dalai Lama Center for Ethics and Transformative Values at MIT has partnered with the MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program to deliver innovative peer-led leadership training to future global leaders.
IMG_3042The MasterCard Foundation is an independent, global organization that partners with organizations in countries around the world, to create opportunities for all people to learn and prosper. The Foundation’s programs promote financialinclusion and advance youthlearning, particularly in Africa. The MasterCard Foundation Scholars comprise academically talented young people, from economically disadvantaged communities across the globe, who have demonstrated leadership potential.
The Dalai Lama Center for Ethics and Transformative Values at MIT is a collaborative, nonpartisan, think tank that provides training in ethics and values-based leadership to promote global social transformation and economic growth. The peer-led leadership training in particular, seeks not only to inculcate transformative leadership values among the targeted group of Scholars, but to also equip the Scholars with the insight, knowledge, skills and tools needed to foster leadership development among their peers. Importantly, new and emerging technology will also be utilized to develop a mobile platform that would enable the network of Scholars to maintain communication, participate in peer-mentoring, and sustain the motivation that is necessary to enact the tenets of the leadership training.
It is anticipated that this model of compassionate and innovative peer-led leadership development that supports participants’ self-directed discovery and learning, will be expanded to an even younger age group, such as students at the secondary school level. Ultimately, the Dalai Lama Center for Ethics and Transformative Values at MIT, through its peer-led leadership project, seeks to place youth at the forefront of global social transformation and economic empowerment.
