A YEAR OF TRANSFORMATION AND IMPACT: LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR
December 10, 2013
It gives me great pleasure to present highlights of the past year’s programs by The Dalai Lama Center for Ethics and Transformative Values at MIT (“The Center”). The Center’s core programs have reached over seven countries including the United States of America, Mexico, United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, India, Singapore, and Ethiopia. The Center is poised to extend its work to Uganda, South Africa, France, and Canada in 2014, while deepening its engagements in existing regions.
The Center has seen tremendous growth over the past 2 years with its team expanding to over 20 scholars, researchers, and scientists; and over 12 MIT Faculty members as part of the Steering Committee. We’re pleased to announce the appointment of a new Co-Director for The Center. Scott Kennedy joins us after spending the past 10 years working with MIT to set up two universities overseas. Our dedicated team has helped to establish and deliver a number of very exciting and significant programs; all supporting our mission to promote inquiry, dialogue and education on issues of great ethical importance.
The most gratifying reward over the past year, has been the experience of the participants in our programs. Diverse audiences, from young school children living where no schools have been built, to senior executives in positions of great economic influence, they have all displayed a common appreciation and joy in the opportunity for self-development through education. Our approach is unique. We believe that the most important lessons – those with great ethical implications – arise from personal reflection and self-realization; and we continue to find innovative methods and media to promote this experiential learning and its transformative outcomes.
I invite you to read through this newsletter to get a glimpse of our programs over the past year. I also encourage you to become engaged with the center. Look for programs or events near your area, volunteer your time, find your own way to support our work. Join this effort to make a positive change in our truly interconnected world.
We look forward to hearing from you! With Warm Regards,
